Beiteddine

48 Km south east of Beirut, a beautiful drive into Chouf Mountains stands the magnificent Beiteddine palace. Built over a thirty-year period by the Emir Bachir El-Chehab II, it is Lebanon's best example of early 19th century Lebanese architecture.

The palace ceiling, galleries, colorful marble mosaics, luxurious Turkish baths and harem suites were decorated by artists from Damascus in a beautiful garden settings. This building is a model of eastern architecture
Today the palace includes a museum of feudal weapons, costumes and jewelry as well as a new archaeological museum and Byzantine mosaics.
